Deals and Discounts Around the World
One solution to the wildly inflated room rates in London is the weekend deal at the luxurious Athenaeum Hotel (http://www.athenaeumhotel.com) in Mayfair. Until May 7, the rate is $298 a couple and includes full English breakfast, value-added tax and use of the health spa. You've got until September 24 to buy the $340 roundtrip fare for the new Austrian Airlines (http://www.aua.co.at/aua) service between Atlanta and Vienna. The flights begin on October 1 and the fare is valid for departures until December 7. A $440 fare is available for connecting flights from 9 southeastern cities. IST Cultural Tours (http://www.ist-tours.com) has knocked $300 a person off the price of its 6-night cruise (October 9 to 15) through the French wine-producing region of Burgundy. The special price--$1,699 a person--includes passage on the 20-passenger La Litote, all meals and daily guided excursions. Japan Airlines (800-JAL-FONE; http://www.japanair.com) is offering a sale to eight Asian destinations. Sample roundtrip fares: $528 between Los Angeles and Taipei; $858 between Boston and Seoul; and $878 between Chicago/O'Hare and Beijing. But hurry: tickets must be purchased by October 5. A Saturday-night stay is required and all travel must be completed by January 31, 2000.

Hotel Hot Sheet
Until December 29, the three Pointe Hilton Resorts in Phoenix (http://www.hilton.com; 800-747-7111) have posted "Holiday Guest House" rates of $129 from November 21 to December 29. Suites start at $169 and that price is valid now until December 29. Planning a trip to the South Pacific next year? Air New Zealand (http://www.airnz.com) has posted excellent "early buyer" rates for travel between April 17 and September 21, 2000. If you purchase tickets by November 30, roundtrip fares from Los Angeles are $599 to Fiji, $699 to Auckland, and $799 to Sydney. Qantas (http://www.qantas.com/) has matched the deals. "The First Impressions Package" at the Hotel Monoco (http://www.monaco-denver.com) in Denver is pegged to the Impressionism exhibit October 2 to December 12) at the Denver Art Center. The $185 rate includes: accommodations for two; two tickets to the exhibition; a coffee-table book on the show; parking; coffee and wine.

A First-Class Sale to Las Vegas
National Airlines (888-757-JETS; http://www.nationalairlines.com) has announced a short-term sale on first-class flights to its Las Vegas hub. One-way fares are as low as $120 from Los Angeles and $155 from San Francisco; East Coast fares include $449 from Philadelphia. Restrictions include 7-day advance purchase, all travel must be completed by December 23, and tickets must be purchased by October 8.
