Travel Steals & Deals

So you say you want to visit the big city this summer? Good choice. There are plenty of bargains that bundle hotel accommodations with shopping trips, museum tickets, and meals. Here are some of the best deals in some of our favorite towns.

The sumptuous Copley Plaza (800-996-3426) is usually too rich for our blood, but the "Wyndham Special Summers" rate of $165 a night (valid through Labor Day) is a bargain. Pay with your MasterCard and get a Kodak camera.

Book the weekend "Shopper's Package" for $210 a night at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago (312-266-1000) and get free gifts from seven swanky shops, including Chanel and Tiffany. Don't want to shop? The "Bed 'n Breakfast" weekend rate of $149 at the Swiss™tel Chicago (312-565-0565) includes guest room, breakfast for two, and parking.

We love the $225 "It's Now or Never" package at the Ritz-Carlton Cleveland (216-623-1300). It includes overnight accommodations, parking, continental breakfast for two, and two tickets to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum.

Los Angeles
Stay in Beverly Hills, of course. The "Ultimate Shopper's Paradise Package" at the Hotel Nikko Beverly Hills (310-247-0400) costs $225 and includes a guest room, breakfast for two, parking, and gifts and discounts at the Beverly Center mall. The rate is valid on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Miami is tons of fun, but we nest at the lavish, oceanfront Turnberry Isle Resort & Club (305-936-2929) in Aventura. And the "Turnberry Sampler" rate, valid until October 3, is an unbelievable deal. Instead of about $300 a night, you pay $89.50 per person per room and receive: accommodations, breakfast, and free golf and tennis.

At the Regal Maxwell House Hotel (615-259-4343), the "Southern Sojourn" rate of $189 a night includes a guest room, two tickets to Opryland, drinks for two, breakfast for two, and a gift basket featuring--what else?--Maxwell House coffee.

New York
Want a shot at New York's best hotel at a big discount? Book the "Summer at the Mark" rate at The Mark (212-744-4300), the little gem nestled between Madison Avenue and Central Park. For $260 a night (valid until September 8), you receive accommodations, continental breakfast for two, and a T-shirt. Or visit the most tranquil place in the city: the new, Japanese-influenced Kitano New York (212-885-7000). The weekend "Bed & Breakfast" package costs $225 and includes a guest room, Japanese or American breakfast for two, parking, and late check-out.

It's unbelievably hot--and thus cheap--in Phoenix. The best deals are at the three all-suite Pointe Hilton Resorts (800-747-7111). Through September 10, you'll pay $89-$129 per suite per night instead of the usual $225.

The "Art Lover's Package" at the intimate Alexis Hotel (206-624-4844) costs $190 a night includes accommodations, two passes to the Seattle Art Museum, continental breakfast for two, and evening sherry.

The elegant Four Seasons Hotel (416-928-7310) offers the "Privileged Shopper Package" for $170 a night; it includes a guest room, afternoon tea for two, and discounts at more than 50 of Toronto's best retailers.
