SUMMER SPECIALS: Hotel Deals and Discounts
As business travel slows down in the summer months, hotels around the world slash rates and create promotion to fill their rooms. The programs mentioned below are a small sampling of what is available this summer. Don't see your favorite destination or property? Call ahead or surf to the website and ask for a summer deal. Chances are there's be a special rate available. As with most special offers, of course, advance reservations are usually required and not all promotional rates are available every day. And please note: these prices are not guaranteed to be the lowest rate available at a particular hotel. Depending on local conditions, a more attractive price or special deal may be available. Always inquire about lower prices before confirming a reservation.

AMERICAN SCENE: Breakfasts, Bonus Miles and More
The 425 Fairfield Inn properties have reduced summer rates to $49 to $79 a night through September 30. Prices include breakfast and free local phone calls. … Sixteen Fairmont hotels are offering a "Welcome Summer" promotion until September 5. Nightly prices range from $97 (Acapulco) to $269 (San Francisco) and guests receive double American AAdvantage frequent-flyer miles. … The "Fill in the Blanks" promotion from the Marriott and Renaissance chains are valid until September 10 and include breakfast and local amenities such as theme-park and museum admissions. Prices range from $69 (Atlanta) to $199 (Key Largo, Florida) and are available Thursdays through Sundays at hotels and seven days a week at resorts. … About 300 Starwood properties (including hotels in the Westin, Sheraton and Four Points chains) are offering "Preferred Getaways" until September 10. Rates start at $49 a night and include a late checkout, but restrictions are formidable: 14-day advance reservations are required; all travel must be booked by August 27; and you must pay with an American Express card.

LUSH LIFE: Puttin' on the Ritz (and Mandarin and Four Seasons)
Even super-deluxe hotels are not above discounting in the summer months. The complicated "City Pleasures" offer from 29 Four Seasons hotels around the world requires travelers to mention the promotion at the time of reservation, pay with an American Express card, present an AT&T Calling Card at check-in, and stay at least two nights. The payoff? A certificate worth as much as $200 off any published rate. The promotion is valid until September 4. … "Summer Choices" rates at Mandarin Oriental hotels around the world include breakfast, late checkout and use of the on-site health clubs. There are three rates at each hotel, valid for standard rooms, deluxe accommodations or suites. Nightly prices range from $79 (for a standard room in Kuala Lumpur) to $849 (for a suite in Honolulu) until August 31. … Ritz-Carlton hotels around the world are offering special rates until September 4 when you pay with an American Express card. Sample prices: $135 in Bali; $139 weekends in St. Louis; and $204 weekdays in Montreal.

WEEKEND WONDERS: Freebie, Cheapies and Late Checkouts
Many Courtyard by Marriott properties in the United States and Canada are offering the "Breakfast Lovers Special" package on Friday and Saturday nights until September 10. Room rates range from $59 (Phoenix) to $184 (Anchorage) and include a breakfast buffet for two adults and two children ages 10 and younger. … The "Family Fun Pak" promotion from the Embassy Suites chain is available Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights until October 3. Kids under 18 stay free and prices start at $75 per night per suite. Breakfast and evening cocktails are included and there are additional family-related amenities like free movie rentals, pizzas and admissions to nearby tourist attractions. Ask for promotion code FFP. … The "Hyatt Touch" promotion at Hyatt properties in the United States and Canada is available Fridays through Sundays. Until September 4, nightly rates range from $75 (Wichita, Kansas) to $245 (New York) and include a $25 coupon for hotel restaurants. … The "Phenomenal Fridays" offer from the 40 Omni hotels in North America is valid for weekend stays until September 4. Prices begin at $69 a night and include a 5 pm check-out time.

WORLD WATCH: Global Chains Slash Their Summer Rates
The "Summer Options" promotion at more than 300 Inter-Continental and Crowne Plaza locations allows you to choose one of the following amenities: club room or suite upgrade; breakfast for two; bonus frequent-travel plan miles: or a second room at half price. Sample rates: $119 in Austin, Texas; $155 in Santiago, Chile; and $121 in Geneva, Switzerland. The promotion is valid until September 3 in Europe and September 15 elsewhere. … "Le Passport" summer rates at more than 125 Le Meridien properties are available until August 31. Sample nightly prices: $117 in Singapore; $129 including breakfast in Marrakech, Morocco; $149 in Dallas; and $165 in Warsaw, Poland. … The "Summer Sale" at Sofitel groups 117 participating hotels in Europe and the United States into six nightly price categories: $130, $150, $170, $220, $250 and $270. The rates include breakfast and are valid until August 31. … The "Summer SwissSaver" rates at Swissτtel properties are valid until at least August 20 at all properties and as late as September 30 at some hotels. Sample nightly rates: $84 in Lima, Peru; $160 in Istanbul; and $179 in New York.
